I’ve always been someone who takes on new experiences with open arms, enjoys a challenge and seeks out new adventures. Though the stable net of having a routine, knowing my surroundings and having friends and family nearby was a comfort, after living in Boston for 10+ years and living in Massachusetts almost my whole life, I think both myself, and my husband, Bill, felt like we were ready to take on something new.
In 2012, we had been dating for about 4 years and were lucky enough (because of Bill’s job at Philips) to spend a only a summer living in the Netherlands and traveling around Europe. The ease of traveling and excitement of new experiences and cultures was something we were immediately drawn to. Fast forward 4 years later, now married and settled back in Boston. Yet we still were talking and dreaming about returning to Europe for a longer-term experience. Countless times we said to one another “one day, we will go back and live in Europe.” Until one night, during a ruthless New England winter, we realized, if we want to do this, let’s really do this! Having been married almost 1 year, with no children, no pets, no house, and nothing keeping us truly cemented in Boston, Bill started investigating the possibility of a job role in Holland. Shortly after, we made the decision to move to Eindhoven, Netherlands and hopped on a plane March 27, 2016.
With hope this does not offend our loved ones we left behind, the decision to move was an easy one. While leaving behind an established network of friends, family, and colleagues, the call to spend the next few years of our lives in an exciting adventure was one we could not pass up.
I decided to start this blog to share my experiences living abroad. I am passionate about travel, food, culture and fitness and I hope to share all of this with you as I continue to pursue new goals and challenges. After all, dreams are worth chasing. If you can’t stop thinking about it, it’s probably worth going after!
